REST API

Surfer exposes a REST API that allows developers to programmatically create Content Editors, retrieve content scores, and pull keyword data.

Key API Endpoints

POST /v1/content-editors — Create a new content editor session for a keyword.
GET /v1/content-editors/{id} — Retrieve Content Score, NLP keyword suggestions, and structural guidelines.
GET /v1/keywords — Fetch keyword volume, difficulty, and cluster data.

Google Docs Add-on

Install the Surfer SEO Google Docs add-on to surface real-time content scoring directly inside a Google Doc. The add-on syncs with the Surfer backend via OAuth and updates the score on every keystroke.

WordPress Plugin

The official Surfer WordPress plugin lets editors pull Content Editor guidelines into Gutenberg and publish optimized posts directly. It supports role-based access controls.

Key Parameters

Content Score: Composite 0–100 score based on keyword coverage, structure, and word count vs. competitors.
NLP terms: Semantically related entities extracted from top-ranking pages using Google's NLP API signals.
Keyword Density: Suggested usage frequency per term to avoid over- or under-optimization.
